Perhaps I was lamenting the end of summer and fair weather when I came across my illustration of a mermaid. It led me to other works on paper that reside pressed within the pages of a huge book sitting in my studio…
This sea glass study was made this past summer from my ongoing collection of sea glass that I’ve picked up along the shore. I was practicing a glazing technique with watercolors and thought my little collected shards of color would be the perfect inspiration.
In the end both pieces led me here … to finish my painting “Mermaid”. I wanted to incorporate the fun of my illustration and the colors of my collected sea glass. It’s a bit of an ode to summer’s end with my mermaid stopping to say farewell as she moves on to warmer waters.
*Dedicating this Mermaid painting to my web developer and workout buddy – because when you get to mermaid pose, you know you are pretty much done!
