“There shall be eternal summer in the grateful heart” ~ Celia Thaxter
Back in the studio after a wonderful summer spent at Rye Beach with the family. It was a gift to be by the ocean each day to think and talk and dream but now the batteries are recharged, school begins for some and I’m back working on projects that have taken a backseat to beach living.
I always start out by painting a party girl or two to get me back in the swing of things. I love the portraits that emerge from the swirls of paint. Sometimes I have people in mind because of a special birthday or event that draws near and their personality shows up on the canvas. August birthdays are plentiful – including my own – maybe that’s why I’m inclined to start painting in a celebratory way once I’m back from summer break.
Someone who is celebrating a milestone birthday this month.
Occasionally someone fun just shows up on their own like in this portrait.
Other times it is a rework of a portrait that just didn’t feel right. This one had a little “work” done over the summer.
It’s great to be back, refreshed and looking forward to what I always think of as the true start of “the new year”.
see you soon,
