Maybe it’s the impending cold weather but I took a turn to the dark side last week when I began to paint a couple of my vessel series. I started off bright and cheery and then the wind began to blow the leaves past my studio window as the trees began to shed. I rather like the result of the bare seedpods in this rustic vessel although my son walked by and said “are you feeling depressed?” I consider the fact that my 17 year old noticed the shift in my paintings and connected it to a shift in my energy as a minor triumph of sorts. But if you look closely enough, you’ll see the color just beneath the surface of the old, scratchy pot. The greens of a future springtime are just waiting for their moment again but for now I’m digging the solemnity of a bit of a winter palette.
This is number 37 sitting on my easel in the living room. I’m deciding where to hang it.
