number 14: calla lilies in turquoise pottery

A handful of calla lilies and wild flowers are nestled in an antique turquoise piece of pottery.  I’m finding  quite a lot of joy in painting florals in the way that I see them.  They go through quite the metamorphosis from beginning to end and it’s always fun to see the final painting.

the start of my painting

Here is the start of my calla lillies painting sitting on my easel.  The turquoise pottery doesn’t make it’s appearance until the end.  Sometimes I just have to sit and wait until the painting whispers what it needs from me… like an old piece of pottery or the addition of some wild flowers.  I’ve started to take some pictures of the process so I can see how my paintings evolve with time and so I don’t get discouraged when things seem to be going in the wrong direction.  The little mistakes can turn into some of the most wonderful aspects of the final piece.  Kind of like life …
