One summer vacation in Maine I was photographing my son Liam on Mile Stretch Beach. He just happened to be standing on the dune in his wet suit ( yes, the water is that cold in Maine) holding his skim board and I decided that was a picture worth savoring. I went back and recreated that moment in one of my pastepaper collages. Later when vacation was over and bags were unpacked, I pulled out the piece of art and felt that the colors and the image of Liam would look beautiful on a piece of glass. I ended up collaborating with a wonderful company in Vermont that helped me put “Liam at the Beach” onto a glass tile which then became a glass nightlight. It got me thinking about my other pieces of art and how they would translate onto glass. The beautiful thing about creating pastepaper is the incredible depth of color and texture that you get and then you make an image with it and put it on glass and you’ve got something incredible!

The nightlights became a big hit not just with my child but with other kids and adults as well. Many people wanted the nightlights to give as hostess gifts because they really are unique and special. I would call them illuminated wall art more than just a nightlight.
