A painting for a vintage frame …

Sometimes inspiration comes easily and I know immediately what I want to paint and exactly how I plan to execute the painting. With the frame in view, I just went to work, taped up my paper and began to build up my background with the flowers soon to follow. I just love when I get a moment of clarity and can just plunge ahead into a project.

Back to School and Fish Tales

My favorite souvenirs from great adventures are always my memories and in this case I was able to able to record a bunch of stories of our summer in this one particular painting. It has different meanings for each person. (Ask my son’s friend, Cam – who called my painting: “More work than I’ve done in my First 2 Years of College” – lol) If you look closely at each fish, they have their own little personalities and stories to tell – maybe the best title for this particular piece of work is: “Fish Tale”.

A kid collaboration of new artwork

Over winter break I had two of my favorite kids hanging with me in my studio. We decided to collaborate on some new artwork which was really convenient because we had some time on our hands and quite a lot of energy to contend with. I set up two easels along with some canvases and heavy duty watercolor papers and then had the boys choose the color paints they liked best. We talked about what collaboration means and then we discussed how to lay down paint for a really cool background.

new work – inspired abstract florals

I had a few florals in various stages of completion and this was an idea I had at the early stage of the game. I confess that this painting sat longer than usual because I had moved onto other things and decided to save this for another day. I finished this a couple of weeks ago and it has become one of my favorite florals to date. I’m happy that I waited to see where I really wanted to go with it.

Surfing Santa, Finish Magazine and a Happy New Year’s wish…
