This week I started out with 4 different paintings in various stages of completion or lack thereof. When I try to get motivated, I turn toward illustrating the things floating inside my head. Maybe because we were coming off of a great family weekend and I had just dropped off our son back at college – that these skater dudes found their way onto the paper.
No offense to my college boy’s mustache and beard, but I must have a thing about the facial hair because it figured prominently in my last two pieces. Maybe I like it more than I let on? These pieces are created on cold press water color paper and start out with an element of collage and then I paint my artwork around it. In these illustrations, I decided to give them all a proper start to their outfits by piecing in a top from a clothing catalog – the skater-dudes then made their outfits their own.
In my humble opinion, the piece de resistance is my Movember Man above. I had so much fun watching him come to life with that mustache, hat and grandpa sweater that I just couldn’t resist resting a little bird in his hand as well. These three skater dudes ended up taking up most of my painting time this week and I still have 4 paintings in various stages of completion! But I feel happier and freer just like my skater guys – I have a feeling that my other paintings will come together for me sometime next week.
See you soon,
