This week I started out with 4 different paintings in various stages of completion or lack thereof. When I try to get motivated, I turn toward illustrating the things floating inside my head.  Maybe because we were coming off of a great family weekend and I had just dropped off our son back at college – that these skater dudes found their way onto the paper.

No offense to my college boy’s mustache and beard,  but I must have a thing about the facial hair because it figured prominently in my last two pieces.  Maybe I like it more than I let on? These pieces are created on cold press water color paper and start out with an element of collage and then I paint my artwork around it.  In these illustrations, I decided to give them all a proper start to their outfits by piecing in a top from a clothing catalog – the skater-dudes then made their outfits their own.

In my humble opinion, the piece de resistance is my Movember Man above.  I had so much fun watching him come to life with that mustache, hat and grandpa sweater that I just couldn’t resist resting a little bird in his hand as well.  These three skater dudes ended up taking up most of my painting time this week and I still have 4 paintings in various stages of completion! But I feel happier and freer just like my skater guys – I have a feeling that my other paintings will come together for me sometime next week.

See you soon,

Ellen

Thanks so much Anne-Maire. I just decided to go for some fun last week and play and this is what happens! I have a feeling these skater dudes will be making an appearance again. xo

This, this this!! While I love your party girls, I have not seen your focus veer towards the millennial male, hipster dude (wearing, quite appropriately, the grandpa sweater). They need love too! It took me a beat to absorb the mixed media collage, but that’s b/c I’ve never seen anything like it. Take a look at Movember’s eyes….something enchanted behind those peepers.

For the originals, what at the dimensions for the canvases?

Oh thank you ever so Chrissy! I’m digging the hipster dude too and had a lot of fun creating them. These guys are works on paper and are 12×18 My favorite is Movember Man too – he seems to be a sensitive kind of guy.
      xo
